marc maron: from bleak to dark (hbo max)
Maron's brand of brutally honest mental-health forward comedy feels extra appropriate for 2023. we've now seen and accepted the fact that we're in a mental health crisis, and Maron's ready to help us make sense of it. his willingness to publicly process the super-sad loss of his girlfriend, director Lynn Shelton, is dark territory that it feels like only Maron can pull off so well.

made you look: a true story about fake art (netflix)
as a sucker for stories about art frauds and heists, i've long been following the juicy fall of one NYC's oldest galleries. when a newly-discovered trove of pollacks, rothkos, and other top contemporary artists are proved to be forged, who's to blame? the forger, the gallerist, or the go-between? it's a cautionary tale of caveat emptor.

return to seoul (sony classics)
i loved how this moving korean film takes the outsider POV to unexplored territory. when a young, adopted french girl visits her birth country, she's awash with conflicting emotions as she haltingly engages with her found family. a breakout performance by park ji min will leave you haunted by her sense of loss – and her search for belonging.

midnight asia (netflix)
while not a new NETFLIX drop, i discovered it this week as eric was watching -- looking for some aesthetically interesting viewing. the series visits major metropolises at night (such as Taiwan, Tokyo, and Mumbai). it reminded me of something that would have aired on premium cable in the early 2000s, and i liked that about it!

vanity fair party tricks (you tube)
a break from the endless sea of celeb "GRWM" (get ready with me) videos, this series has celebs show off their weird talents. see Austin Butler make paper roses, Keke Palmer guess astrological signs, and Florence Pugh's contortionist skills.

feel good inc: gorillaz (youtube)
i've been re-listening to one of my all-time fave tracks, featuring the late trugoy the dove (R.I.P.) and his bandmates from DE LA SOUL. the brainchild of GORILLAZ frontman damon albarn, the now-classic animated video helped spark a 2006 GRAMMY for best pop collaboration.

what is enyacore? meet the moody, medieval side of the next y2k aesthetic
i love me some new age music. and though we are maxed out on "cores" - who can resist enya? sail away, sail away, sail away with moody, medieval "enyacore."

a new form of asmr has emerged. from shredders to hydraulic presses it seems watching videos of things getting destroyed really sparks joy in people. maybe it's not so new? humans have always had a taste for total annihilation and these content creators have found a way to make hundreds of thousands of dollars compressing, breaking, and shredding away everything from toilet paper to high priced electronics.

#LOokforward🌅 with linda ong
on this week’s #LOokforward linda ong focuses on what’s trending in women’s mental health, cultique’s work with claire’s, and jayson tatum’s nike collab.
the CDC's latest study shows that the negative impact of smartphones and social media on teen girls is profound. but mental health issues aren't limited to age or gender. i'm wishing the best for senator john fetterman, who made a big impression on me when we met a few years back at his Braddock, PA home.
it's official: our CLAIRE'S partner kristin patrick has coined the term GENERATION ZALPHA to describe the intersection of gen z with its younger siblings. what do you think -will marketers adopt and run with it? or will it culturally languish, like the thirsty ZILLENNIALS?
king james' god-like status was cemented among the trippy gradients of the all-star NBA weekend jerseys. but i was most impressed by jayson tatum's deep dive into the "colorways" of his new NIKE JT1 shoes – and the candy-colored kicks of all the other players upping their fashion game
