decision to leave
this south korean romantic mystery took home the best director prize at this year's cannes festival. weaving together an insomniac detective with an enigmatic suspect tied to a suspicious death, the hazy vibe echoes the morning fog of the lead's home town.

did you know that there’s a tunnel under ocean blvd (lana del rey)
a new release from del rey's upcoming album, i'm ready to go into the holidays with her haunting vibes. the build at the end of the song really does it for me and is why to listen. also, apparently long beach's public library tweeted in agreement that there is indeed a tunnel under ocean boulevard. points for accuracy, indeed.

christine mcvie/fleetwood mac
say you love me: christine mcvie's passing was really sad for fans of music everywhere. a gifted artist, mcvie had a tenderness in her lilt that is endearing. her songs are numerous, and i've loved their melodies for many years (check out HOLD ME, EVERYWHERE, and LITTLE LIES to name a few). but SAY YOU LOVE ME is an irresistible place to start.
songbird: long overshadowed by bandmate stevie nicks, i'm glad that the late christine mcvie is finally getting recognition as one of the creative forces behind FLEETWOOD MAC and some of their biggest hits. i've always loved SONGBIRD for its simplicity and purity, and how you hear that in christine's voice.

don’t worry darling (wbd)
cross THE STEPFORD WIVES with BLACK MIRROR, and you get florence pugh and harry styles in an aesthetically-pleasing world that's predictably rotten to the core. despite the controversy in the press and mixed critical reviews, i had a good time so please judge for yourself.

a christmas carol (snl)
this sketch was both festive and (comically) bright, featuring martin short and steve martin at their best. it reminded me why i love classic sketch comedy and if you didn't get around to holiday cards, send a link to this instead!

women are turning to therapeutic screaming
when our analyst rajiv menon sent this article to me, i recalled hearing of therapy screaming in the past: a few years back - early pandemic - Iceland, the source of many witty tourism campaigns, encouraged people to scream it all out into their computers. the screams then got released into gorgeous icelandic scenic voids via speakers. how soothing. well, turns out they were onto something.

#LOokforward🌅 with linda ong
during the 2022 FIFA WORLD CUP, rajiv and i have been inspired by the rise of the "global south" (fka "emerging markets" or worse, the condescending label "third-world countries"). with past championships in south africa, brazil, and now the qatari spectacle resulting in an improbable run of the moroccan team - topped by a historic win for argentina - could the west’s cultural domination be over at last?
the personalities who captivated our hearts and minds in 2022 include the inspiring ukrainian president, named TIME's person of the year. and LA mourned the "celebrity mountain lion" who became a sad symbol of urban encroachment on nature.
