the ringleader: the case of the bling ring (hbo / max)
having felt meh about the sophia coppola movie based on nancy jo sales' VANITY FAIR piece, i was not expecting to be engrossed in this documentary. but here the story of rachel lee takes on a socioeconomic lens, looking at the crime squad's issues of class and race, consequences and accountability in privileged calabasas. despite lee's tearful retelling of her trauma, i couldn't help still feeling manipulated by her – which may have been the point of the film.

alexander mcqueen spring summer 24 show (alexandermcqueen.com)
i love streaming mcqueen shows live online: the drama, the silhouettes! but this one was especially poignant being sarah burton's last as creative director of the brand. naomi campbell walked the runway. david bowie's HEROES played. it was spectacular.

the wonderful story of henry sugar (netflix)
it's a delight to discover the intricate and overlapping jewel-box sets in wes anderson's new short, the first of four. the director turns a roald dahl short story into an inventive film that's part-stage play, part-book reading. here, the craft/production itself is a character, and the players are the A-listers who bring a sense of mischief to their roles.

sweet sounds of heaven: the rolling stones + lady gaga (polydor)
many thanks to david fox for turning me onto this new gem from the stones that sounds as good as the old ones. and lady gaga really throws herself into this collab with the radical vocals she's so good at. play the seven-minute version on BLAST!

flowers (youtube)
thanks to earnest pettie for tipping me off to this new documentary series he worked on about the impact Black creators have on internet culture and trends. the first episode, featuring sWooZie and the storytime animation genre he helped pioneer, is well worth a watch.

michelle wolf: it’s great to be here (netflix)
wolf's new special pleasantly surprised me -- part of a trend of comedians not pandering to any one side, but taking the system down. i especially enjoyed her pokes at white women - she is one herself, as am i.

elite athletes swear by these extreme treatments. scientists think they could boost your health, too.
people usually look at me funny when i say i'm a biohacker. but now it looks like infrared therapy and PEMF mats are becoming mainstream, as people seek to uplevel their wellness game. i find the affordable therapies at @upgradelabs in LA effective for dealing with jet lag, brain fog, reducing inflammation and speeding up healing. i may not be an elite athlete, but i can heal like one! 💪

fall tv can’t stop looking backward
fall tv in 2023 is trending towards the past. nostalgia for bygone eras and simpler times might be shifting the concept of “new” this season, especially when we consider the current state of network television. it’s pretty apparent that the recent strikes have left a void of contemporary pieces that speak to the current moment. so for now, we’ll have to enjoy more of a “history channel” vibe. 📺

#LOokforward🌅 with linda ong
i got to interview many of the female leaders who were then elected to congress in 1992, the so-called YEAR OF THE WOMAN, including the late diane feinstein. as the head of LIFETIME's on-air promos, our MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR LIFETIME campaign encouraged millions of women to vote, and was the beginning of my own political awakening.
my head is spinning from taylor swift and travis kelce's exploding public relationship: the 34% surge in NFL ratings. his jersey sales soaring. PEACOCK pushing the duo's respective SNL hosting stints (smart!). her upcoming movie and his countless commercials in the CHIEFS' faceoff with the still-suffering JETS. one more (marketing) moment stood out: mama kelce at the EAGLES' game chatting up JAKE FROM STATE FARM (real name: kevin miles).
ICYMI, the 90s are back, with claudia schiffer bringing up the rear in VERSACE, and gold bars (seized or on sale) feeling safer than crazy crypto.

You should give the 4 part David Beckham Netflix special a watch if you haven’t yet. Extremely well done and directed by Hugo from succession. That couple is just so attractive...
